NDP Tourism, Culture and Recreation critic Christopher Mitchelmore (MHA, The Straits-White Bay North) says if government wants to promote tourism as a year-round industry for the province, it could start by looking at the potential snowmobiler market. Promoting trails in Labrador and on the Northern Peninsula, which traditionally have the longest seasons, would be a good start, he says.

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please!

The Member for The Straits – White Bay North.

MR. MITCHELMORE: Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Gerry Rogers

MR. SPEAKER: The hon. the Member for St. John’s Centre.

Today in the House of Assembly NDP Tourism, Culture and Recreation Critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) pressed the minister to take action on concerns facing operators in the tourism industry.

In light of the Federal government’s cuts to Parks Canada sites here in Newfoundland and Labrador, the minister said he will ‘refocus’ efforts within the department.

As members of the arts community gather in Gander for the 27th Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Arts Awards Show, NDP Tourism, Culture and Recreation critic Gerry Rogers (MHA, St. John’s Centre) is questioning government’s commitment to the province’s cultural industries.
